Iranian short film ‘Exam’ qualifies for the Oscars 2021.

Winning the AFI fest award, the Iranian ‘Exam’ has been qualified for the short film category of the Oscars 2021.

Directed by Sonia Haddad, ‘Exam’ won the Grand Jury Prize of the AFI fest which is recognized as a qualifying festival for the Short Film category for the annual Academy Awards.

‘Exam’ is the story of a teenage girl who delivers a package of illegal drug to a client and gets caught in a weird cycle of events.

Since ‘Exam’ garnered the award out of October 1, 2018 -September 30, 2019, span, it is qualified for the 93rd edition of the Oscars. The AFI fest was slated for November 14-21, 2019.

Jury Statement about the short reads “We are so excited to award the Grand Jury Prize to Sonia K. Haddad’s ‘Exam’. ‘Exam’ stood out from the other films for its bold directorial style, anchored by a stunning lead performance. The result is a tense portrait that reaches past its specificity into the universal.”

Nominations for the 92nd annual Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, January 13, 2020.

The awards of the Academy will be presented to the winners on February 9, 2020.
